RATES:
My current commission rate is £25 per hour. My paintings, generally speaking, take somewhere in the region of 3-6 hours for something around 20-30cm in length. Obviously, this depends on a multitude of artistic variables and is simply an estimate for you to consider. Sometimes it is less. Sometimes it is more, but unless the piece is particularly large or complicated, this is unlikely.
DEADLINES:
I do my absolute best to complete commission work to the required deadline of the client, but please be aware that I am not a full time artist, and have to juggle painting around a 50 hour working week and a variety of other real life dedications and responsibilities, so this is not always possible. If you do have a required deadline, please make sure to make that very clear as early as possible. If you do not have a particular deadline in mind I will let you know an estimate based on my current commission list. Sometimes I will have a queue, other times I can start right away.
MY PAINTING PROCESS:
I work with watercolour and ink, and this is the only medium I will accept commissions for. When I receieve a commission it is with the understanding that you are happy with my style, the process and mediums involved. I do not have enough experience in other mediums such as acrylics or oils, so it is not a good idea for either of us to go down that path!
The best advice I can give is to take a look through my recent works on Instagram (@BillysBondArt) and familiarise yourself with consistent characteristics of my paintings, as commissions will be fulfilled using the same process as all of those.
I create art using Windsor & Newton proffesional watercolours, Windsor & Newton black Indian ink and Arches cold pressed paper. All of these materials are proffesional grade.
FRAMING
I can not personally frame paintings to a proffesional level. I have a good relationship with my local gallery and go there to have work framed regularly. If you would like your painting proffesionally framed, please allow 2-3 weeks for this, and be aware that this can be an expensive process. I will only send framed paintings in the post if they have been sent for proffesional framing - it is not worth the risk otherwise. However, I am more than happy to mount paintings to fit a standard frame size so that it is easier for you find a suitable frame on your end.
DEPOSIT:
Once a commission is agreed, I will ask for a deposit of £25, which covers the first hour of work. This makes your commission booking official. The outstanding amount is to be paid upon completion of the artwork. It is very difficult to make ammendments to watercolour paintings, as you can't simply paint over what is there. Any alterations or repainting requested by the client will be charged at the normal rate of £25 per hour.
